Tourism Event Analytics with Mobile Phone Data

Tourism has been an increasingly significant contributor to the economy, society, and environment. Policy-making research on tourism traditionally rely surveys economic datasets, which are based small samples depict dynamics at a low granularity. Anonymous call detail record (CDR) is novel source of data with enormous potential in areas high societal value: epidemics, poverty, urban development. This study demonstrates added value CDR event tourism, especially for analysis evaluation marketing strategies, operations, externalities local national levels. To achieve this aim, we formalize 14 indicators spatial temporal resolutions measure both positive negative impacts touristic events. We exemplify use these country, Andorra, 22 high-impact events including sports competitions, cultural performances, music festivals. analyze using large-scale across 2 years.
